The building's layout is a triangle, a shape that is not commonly used in architecture due to its inefficiency in land use and construction. However, Park has transformed this challenge into a strength, creating a visually compelling structure that stands out among conventional buildings. The combination of different-sized triangles serves as a meeting point between humans and nature, reflecting the designer's intention to create a space that facilitates interaction and connectivity.
The interior of the building also follows the triangular theme. A meeting table, cut at the same angle as the rain-gathering side wall, is complemented by a triangular horn lighting fixture. Above, a square window allows sunlight to filter through, casting triangular shadows and adding another layer of geometric intrigue to the space.
The building's unique properties are not limited to its shape. The exterior features a square frame cut vertically to the rooftop, representing the shape of Mt.Halla against a white background, a nod to local architecture. The building's realization technology includes double-sided roy transparent triple glazing, Profitec Silicone Paint, and exposed concrete interior finishing. The lighting fixtures are LED COB 12W/4000K for the pendant lighting and DD-38050B/3000K LED 2W for the stairs lighting.
The project, which began in January 2018 and was completed in February 2019, was not without its challenges. The use of the triangle, considered a "bad duck" in original architecture, was the most difficult and interesting challenge. However, the design team, comprising Park Hyunmo, Park Geunhyo, and Kim Dohyung, successfully overcame this hurdle, pushing the design vocabulary from concept to detail.
Studio Atelier11's innovative design has not gone unnoticed. The project was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. The award recognizes products and ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
